Estate agents shut as housing market slumps to 'worst ever'
The property bought for Ken Livingstone's former transport commissioner for £2.2 million has failed to resell after more than a year on the market.
The Georgian townhouse was put up for sale in May last year after Bob Kiley, pictured, left his post and lost his right to live in the grace-andfavour home.
With the property market then almost at its peak, Transport for London was hoping for a substantial profit from the asking price of £4.95million.
But the house failed to sell and in January the price was cut to £4.6 million.
Now it is being marketed by Hamptons for £3.5 million.
The Grade II-listed, partstucco fronted, mid-terrace is in Mozart Terrace, Ebury Street, on the Belgravia/Pimlico border.
It has three bedrooms with their own bathrooms, a reception room, drawing room, sitting room, kitchen/breakfast room, utility room, garage, balcony, gardens and vaults.
TfL said it was "committed to achieving the best price possible".

KHOODEELAAR! tells 'Property Week' web site to recognise the crassness of CROSSRAIL... 15 August 2008

There is no evidence that the 'public' asked for Crossrail.
There never has been.
KHOODEELAAR! sought to put the evidence of the crassness of the Crossrail scam to the two so-called select committees in the two Houses of the UK Parliament. But the committees behaved as stooges of the Govt. Which in fact has behaved as an agency of secret lobbies representing Big Business construction outfits. In the 20 years or so of the promotion of the word Crossrail in London, there has been NO evidence that the ordinary people in London or indeed any mentionable number of travelling professionals have called for 'Crossrail'. So why call it 'public sector'? What there is a demand for is a comprehensive and thoughtful overhaul in the EXISTING infrastructure in and around London. This is also confirmed by the findings of the EDDINGTON STUDY. As Channel 4 News - and the Forbes news outlet in the USA- pointed out, Eddington did NOT endorse Crossrail. So why keep hyping it? Apart from shoring up hard up [!!!!] Big construction conglomerates at a time of economic downturn, Crossrail is not going to address the economic needs of travelling Londoners. And that is even before looking at the brazen denial of the economic and transport isolation of the regions in England and Wales which are crying out for serious strategic economic and infrastructure attention. As to the London-centric idiocy which operates on the economically and socially lethal premiss that London makes the income for the whole country, this lie must be nailed for ever by referring to the largest number of unemployed, homeless people to be found in any one urban zone anywhere in western europe. Some world class achievement indeed! Then there is the factor of £Billions in bonuses that are being given away by the so-called public utility outfits in and around London... Who will they be held to account? Before ‘the public’ being asked to pay even more in council tax to expand what will be the pockets of economically UNPRODUCTIVE Big Business ?

"Build costs could hit 2012 Olympics and Crossrail

The public may be forced to contribute more money to fund major public sector projects such as Crossrail and the 2012 Olympic Games, which have been badly hit by rising costs, according to a new report.
A rise in the costs of raw materials and labour could mean that the public sector has to look at its contingency plans to stay out of the red, the latest Civil Engineering Market report from the RICS’ Building Cost Information Service (BICS).
Raw materials and labour costs have risen by 12.2% over the past year and are forecast to rise by a further 12%, however the report found that demand for this type of project continues to rise.
Infrastructure output has risen by 8% and new orders were growing at a rate of 26% in the first quarter of 2008, the report found.
Overall output is predicted to rise by 9% in 2008 and 7% in 2009, with costs forecast to rise by 6.5% in 2008 and 6% in 2009.
Joe Martin, executive director of BCIS, said: ‘With large projects in rail, roads, electricity, water and sewerage all scheduled over the next two years, the civil engineering sector seems well placed to ride out the current economic downturn. However, the industry is facing the possibility of a serious threat caused by a combination of rising costs and the economic downturn, that could result in delays and, at worst, cancellation of some of these schemes.’
