KHOODEELAAR! Telling Boris Johnson: Look at the evidence in South London! What do you see? You see dearth of rail service. What does that mean? It means you should behave rationally, sensibly and responsibly and fund the South London Line and scrap CrossRail...

Boris

THE South London Press is backing campaigners’ calls for Boris Johnson to come to the rescue of rail services this side of the river. Save the South London Line (SLL) members are asking thousands of people to write to the London Mayor urging him to save a proposed replacement for the line that runs from London Bridge to Victoria. Last year, Transport of London (TfL) and the Department for Transport (DfT) decided to scrap the SLL in 2012. A proposed replacement from Bellingham to London Bridge was also ditched and the £24million – or £2.5million per year – due to fund it was diverted to the East London line extension from West Croydon to Dalston Junction via South-east London.

This year, TfL agreed to review the decision – and with the results due out this month, campaigners are urging residents to keep up the pressure on Mr Johnson. Stephen Govier, of the campaign group, said: “I am a great believer in the East London line but that can’t be used as an excuse to cut the existing services. We need radial and orbital links.” He said the cost of keeping the Bellenden line was about the same cost as running a bus service. “There is no justification for saying it’s a money issue.”

Labour London Assembly member for Southwark and Lambeth, Val Shawcross, said: “We want to remind people that they need to put in a last-push email to say, ‘We’ve not gone away.’” The SLL runs from Victoria to London Bridge via Battersea Park, Wandsworth Road, Clapham High Street, Denmark Hill, Peckham Rye, Queens Road Peckham and South Bermondsey. The service is due to stop in 2012 when building works at London Bridge mean there will no longer be room for it to terminate there. To register your support for the campaign – fill in the letter below.

Dear Mr Mayor,
I am alarmed the South London Line is to be removed without a replacement. This essential public transport service is a vital link for the people of Lambeth, Southwark and Wandsworth to the jobs, opportunities, and wealth creation of the Cities of London and Westminster.
As the new East London Line service (ELLX2) does not provide any direct service into the heart of London, I cannot agree with your TfL and with the DfT when they contend it is a viable substitute for our South London Line.
If your plans to axe the South London Line go ahead then my transport options are impoverished and serious overcrowding may result on fewer public transport options left. Transport options that will force many of us into far longer journey times.
North a full range of public transport options and connections stands in marked contrast to a growing poverty of such options south of the river. Important regeneration objectives and urban renewal possibilities will be surrendered and even lost.
The whole community and our elected representatives were led to believe any new East London Line service would add to and complement existing services. Now under plans you continue to endorse sustainable public transport links will be cut.
Please stand up for South London and commit to improving rather than removing our public transport services and options.
The Minister of State for Transport has at least offered to help fund retention of the South London Line service into Victoria and we urge you to accept his offer and work together to save direct services into London Bridge.
Yours sincerely,

KHOODEELAAR! Telling G Osborne to remember what he has just said: telling the truth! YOU, UK G Osborne, stick to telling the truth! If you do, you will have to scrap CRASSrail!

KHOODEELAAR! Contextually citing the December 2008 London [Rupert Murdoched] Times online report clearly showing UK Lib Dems Nick Clegg openly planning to purge the alleged 'Left' in the Parliamentary Lib Dem Party and praising David Laws, the Right-winger who did lead the Clegg Cameron deal negotiation last week! That report was 16 months ago. So for Clegg to deny the charges from critics that he has misled the ordinary Party members and walked into a treacherous deal with the UK Cons is untrue. Which also exposes as sham the claim that Nick Clegg is engaged in a pro-democratic change to society.  No legislation will be democratically let alone ethically scrutinised. Clegg will keep to the Right so long as that will ensure his position in what he misleadingly styles as 'power sharing'. Clegg will prefer to ram home harsh, impoverishing, poverty-causing, rights-denying legislation that will penalise his targets the people whom 'the the Left' allegedly identify with...
