KHOODEELAAR! Quoting 'New Civil Engineer' report on the near-disaster on the London underground during the week. We reiterate the call for the ending of the UK Govt's role as a tout for Big Biz interests. This near-disaster on the Northern Line should not be ignored. Most of the tube disrepair and lack of competence is linked to the neglect being shown to the EXISTING railways infrastructure in and around London. Must a disaster occur before this point is accepted by the decision-makers who have been acting as stooges for Big Biz interests? Scrap Crossrail, improve the existing Underground and rail networks in and around London. Make travelling in London safe.

Near disaster as runaway engineering train clears six stops on Northern Line

By NCE Editorial
A runaway and defective engineering train this morning caused chaos on the London Underground, travelling six stops on the Northern Line before it could be stopped.
The incident has caused massive disruption to the Charing Cross branch of the London Underground and services on the line remain suspended.
At around 5.25am the train that was carrying out rail maintenance work became defective as it approached Archway, travelling southbound on the High Barnet branch. Engineers began to move the defective train northbound by coupling the now unmanned carriages to an out of service Northern Line train.
However, for reasons that are now under investigation, at around 6.44am the engineering train broke free heading southwards. It ran for some 13 minutes past at least six stations before coming to a standstill at Warren Street on the Charing Cross branch.
London Underground staff diverted passenger trains to the City branch while directing the engineering train to the Charing Cross branch where passenger trains had been non-stopped and cleared.
It has since suspended the use of all engineering trains of the type involved in today’s incident, which are provided to LU and operated by a contractor.
Transport for London confirmed that the Rail Accident Investigation Bureau had launched an investigation into an incident that happened.
