WORK on the new Isle of Dogs Crossrail station at Canary Wharf is soon set to begin.
The announcement follows agreement between the Canary Wharf Group plc (CWG), the government and Transport for London over funding of the £500m project.
CWG will contribute £150 to the station which has been redesigned, resulting in significant savings.
First trains on the £16b Crossrail service - Heathrow and Maidenhead in the West to Canary Wharf and Stratford in the East, via a seven mile tunnel under central London - are due to run in 2017.
Planning approval has been received for approximately 100,000 square feet of retail space and a rooftop park above the station.
Transport Minister Andrew Adonis described Crossrail as crucial in keeping London and the rest of the country globally competitive.
It could boost the UK's economy by £20b, as well as creating around 30,000 new jobs.
CWG chief executive George Iacobescu said: "Canary Wharf Group has supported Crossrail for many years. It is vitally important for transport infrastructure to improve to help London keep pace with rapidly developing cities in other parts of the world which are competing for London's role as one of the main global financial centres.

Today is 4 January 2009.
Three years ago, this same week, the ‘local’ ‘newspaper’, the monopoly [on that trade aspect more in a later comment] ‘East London Idiotiser’ ran an item, the first such item [meaning that there had been a few more items before but not of this nature] that the ‘title’ had ever run on the campaign. The KHOODEELAAR! campaign was two years ongoing by then.. What it said in January 2006, was that CROSSRAIL would cost the Blairing clique in Tower Hamlets... More later on that political cost.…. Now, three years on and a huge impact later, the KHOODEELAAR! campaign is independently recognised as the most active one going on in the UK about ANY single ‘scheme’ in any recognizable location.. We are NOt including the campaign against THird Runway and so on as that involves more than one locality and more than one 'parliamentary', 'electoral' constituency.... Not just in Tower Hamlets. Not just in London.. But anywhere in the UK.…. And the ‘local’ ‘newspaper’ , the ‘East London Idiotiser’ is saying.…. ZERO about the campaign...Not that the ‘staff’ ‘journalists’ on the Idiotiser do not know of the Current and the active state of the campaign against Crossrail.. They do.. It is possible to think that they even had a ‘staff’ journalist or ‘source’ observe from as close as a few inches away from the spot where the KHOODEELAAR! campaigners sat on Wednesday 17 December 2008 when the latest formal objection to the Tower Hamlets Council’s role on Crossrail was presented to the last full council meeting.…

WORK on the new Crossrail station at Canary Wharf in East London is now set to begin by the spring, following a Christmas agreement with the Transport State Secretary.
Canary Wharf Group has agreed to lob £150 million into Whitehall’s kitty towards the cost of the new station—and has even signed a deal to design and build it.
The full price-tag is £500m, most of which is being paid for out of Crossrail’s £16 billion budget.
The station is expected to be completed and handed over to Crossrail by the summer of 2012.
But the first trains on the new ‘supper tube’ link to the City, West End and Heathrow are not due until 2017, when Crossrail opens for passenger service.
Predicted journey times to and from Canary Wharf include Liverpool Street in five minutes, Farringdon in 10, Paddington in 17 and Heathrow in 44. Other key stops include Whitechapel, Stratford, Tottenham Court Road and Bond Street.
Trains will run every three minutes at peak times between Central London and Whitechapel, where the line spits into two—one branch to Stratford and Shenfield in Essex, the other to Canary Wharf, Custom House by City Airport and under the Thames to Plumstead and Abbey Wood.
This will provide crowd relief on the packed Central Line through East London and the Piccadilly Line to Heathrow.

What do we mean by ‘corrupt’?
Look up the word in any of the ‘received’ and the ‘standard’ current dictionaries, used in the USA and the UK.
That is the order, isn’t it?
Bechtel; is in the USA and Brown’s Parliament is in the UK
It is Bechtel that is calling the tunes.
And contrary to the revivalist myth of Ken Livingstone [reviving the myths that Livingstone is a still a 'radical' in the best sense of that word] as a voice of reason and conscience – as promoted on the UK media on Saturday 3 January 2008 – Ken Livingstone aided and abetted Big business in their promotion of the agenda when he gave priority to Bechtel on Crossrail contracts…
In so far as Livingstone published preferences went. There is lot of evidence yet to be found in the public domain on the precise details of what Ken n did as he got into bed with Bechtel and similar outfits representing what the Canada-born thinker and student of the USA John Kenneth Galbraith called the Military Industrial Complex
Gurdon Brown’s promotion via the Guardian in their OBSERVER today as an alleged creator of massive jobs in Britain has been criticised by Chris Grayling allegedly spieling on the BBC in the name of David Cameron’s Party.
But Grayling is, IN HIS ROLE as the front bench Tory on a given subject,
He is ignorant.
He is untruthful.
He is now the Tory spokesperson for attacking the low income, the jobless, the impoverished pole and families in Britain today...Before that eh was the tout for the agenda Business CRASSrail.
In both jobs, Grayling aided the process of concealing the truth on the subject
And he was no different today.
It goes without saying that the people in the inner city East End of London will not get any significant benefit or advantage in exercising the right to a decent living as a result of Brown’s latest propaganda measures.
Or from Grayling’s ignorant pretence….
BOTH Brown and Grayling are committed to backing Big Business to the tunes of £Billions while the vital aspects of the UK economy are neglected..
What Brown – and Grayling and their likes holding allocated positions of comparative power over society – does not understand is the fact that the people on the ground would like to exercise the say on what happens to the funding that Brown is now evidently going to make available in the name of the local communities… The money will get appropriated by the local agencies that are on Brown’s list of peddlers….
They will locally peddle the lines until after any election..
And the community will in large parts remain unenhanced. The ‘jobs’ will not materialise in any objective, just sense…
Like any banana republic ‘government’ the local agencies in areas like the inner city East End of London are and have been used to obstruct the universal education and empowerment of the local peoples… Instead, criminalisation and underskilling is and has been afoot….
Brown is in denial on that.
So long as he gets to pose with ‘deprived’ persons at the odd photo shoots before election.... time, that is alright for him.
And the same is true also of Grayling and HIS alleged opposition…
The people are left out by BOTH
