Tube Lines calls for more Underground maintenance cash

Tube Lines has predicted severe consequences for the London Underground if money isn’t poured into its upgrade.
Tube Lines chief executive Terry Morgan told the Guardian the network needs “a huge amount of effort” to cope with 3m passengers a day.
London mayor Boris Johnson has warned the Tube’s upgrade must not be sacrificed to pay for Crossrail.
Morgan said: “To stand still requires a huge amount of effort. There is not sufficient robustness in the system to leave it alone. It is still very fragile.”
He said Tube Lines was bidding for Metronet contracts including station refurbishment work and is also interested in a track replacement contract owned by Balfour Beatty.
